Woolshed and Devon were part of a long known sheep station called Smeaton Vale. During the first irrigation boom in the 70’s, this farm was developed to grow rice using wasteful flood irrigation contours. Left uncultivated for almost one decade, the property was purchased in 2006 for redevelopment, taking advantage of attractive On-Farm Water Infrastructure Improvement incentives at the time. Old contour irrigation rice fields made way for a modern and efficient irrigation system along with a water run-off recycling network. A design was proposed for 2 Lateral Move irrigators and 1 recycled water storage dam. This combination offered a perfect alternative to comply with the On-Farm Water Infrastructure Improvement incentives program, and the tough cropping conditions of the region severely affected by the drought. The entire development was delivered and project managed from survey to commission.
This included:

• Site survey and farm plan design.
• Negotiating the amalgamation of 2 adjacent land holdings with MIL.
• Negotiating land clearing with CMA and MIL.
• Coordinating earthworks involving 6.6km of open air channel, 4.3km of drains, 140 ML earth dam, and access tracks.
• Supply and installation of all water structures; pit, culvert, subway, pump stations.
• Supply and installation of 2 Lateral Moves (625m and 750m width).
• Organising funding application claims.
